Put on the Whole Armor of God | Ephesians 6:10-18
What is one of the dumbest things you have ever done? I have quite a few. But one goes back to the glory days when I played High School football. I practiced with the team in the summer, but the week right before the first game, I made a dumb decision. In full pad practice, I decided not to wear a mouthpiece. One of my defensive teammates hit me underneath my chin violently. That hit dislodged my Canine tooth and immediately deadened 5 of my teeth. They rushed me to a local dentist that put the tooth back in and stitched me up. A long story short, that one decision has cost me thousands of dollars. I had almost every piece of equipment on (helmet, shoulder pads, knee pads and pants) but no mouthpiece, and it knocked me out.
When it comes to spiritual war, we are not to put on some of the armor of God but to put on the WHOLE Armor of God.
Paul is writing to the Ephesians from jail saying that there is an invisible spiritual war happening all around us and supernatural powers are at work against us. He ends by teaching us how to stand firm and fight against the enemy in the victory Christ has already won for us. We stand firm by putting on the whole Armor of God. He tells us what the armor is and why it matters that we have it on.
